The Center to Champion Nursing in America is seeking stories from consumers and nurses who have had significant experiences working together. Nurses and consumers don’t just interact in hospitals, they collaborate in primary care settings (like clinics, health care offices), schools, homes, rehabilitation and nursing homes, and public health agencies. Nurses work throughout the community providing a range of services and caring for a diverse array of people. They are an important link between consumers and the health care system.

Story Guidelines:
Our goal at the Center is to ensure all Americans have access to a highly skilled nurse when and where they need one. If you are a health care consumer, you can help by telling us how working with highly skilled nurse made a difference in your health care. If you are a nurse, tell us how you have integrated consumers into your work. Here are some questions to help you:

For consumers (health care patients, their families and other loved ones):

•Why did you seek care from a nurse?
•Did you work with an advanced practice nurse (nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, etc.)?
•How did this experience change your view of nursing? Of health care?
•Did working with a nurse give you increased access to health care (in other words more time to spend with a health care provider or access to a provider in a geographic area where before there was no provider)?
•Are you aware of state laws or protocols that make it easier or harder for you to seek care from a nurse? If so, please describe.

For nurses:

•Describe your nursing practice.
•What is your highest degree level?
•How are you working with consumers? How is this different from a traditional nurse-consumer relationship?
•How did this experience change your view of nursing? Of health care?
•Did your work in any way increase access to health care for consumers (in other words allow consumers more time to spend with a health care provider or access to a provider in a geographic area where before there was no provider)?
•Are you aware of state laws or protocols that make it easier or harder for you perform your work? If so, please describe.
